What is Therapy with Me Like?
I come to therapy knowing kids and teens are the experts in their own lives, and I’m ready to learn alongside them. Young people are creative, passionate, and resilient, and by making it this far, they have already developed skills to survive tough times. But kids or parents may be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or lost in the process. Nobody should have to go it alone. I partner with young people as they discover their unique strengths and resources for growth.
Treatment Modalities
Narrative Therapy
This means I’m dedicated to understanding the stories kids and teens hold about their lives, and I seek to listen to meaningful stories that have been silenced. You can expect conversations about parts that had to stay hidden because they didn’t fit in or measure up to unrealistic expectations.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
I use DBT skills with kids and teens who struggle with upsetting thoughts, behaviors, or emotions. You can expect concrete activities and skills to help soothe emotions, put negative thoughts to rest, and avoid actions that could cause harm or regret.
Expressive Arts and Play
I use expressive arts activities and play in sessions with kids and teens. Play and art are how young people make sense of their inner world and experiences. Through drawing, writing, sculpting, cards, games, and more, kids and teens can heal, grow, and express the inexpressible.
Mindfulness
This is an awareness and acceptance of the present moment. Sounds easy, but it’s tricky to be fully present in this era of constant distraction. Through hands-on skills, kids and teens learn how to slow down, focus their attention, savor life, and improve their mental health.
